Periodontal cases
Teeth with active periodontal disease should not be moved with braces since this will accelerate any bone loss. Moving teeth with inactive perio is generally OK and is usually quite quick, since there is less bone to move the teeth through.
If the perio disease become active during treatment then movement is stopped temporarily.
Moving teeth straight will not prevent perio disease. As far as we are aware there is no link between irregularity of teeth and perio disease.
