The stages of treatment

The first visit

Firstly come up to the reception area and book in, you will be given a medical history form to fill in and an NHS form (if you are an NHS patient) to sign.

You will then see the orthodontist, Mr. Andrew Pearson who will ask you some questions and look at your teeth.

The most important question is

“how do you feel about your teeth?”

Before you see us have a think about your own teeth, look at them in the mirror, ask other people (friends preferably, not strangers) what they think about them.  These are YOUR teeth and you basically have two options; either leave them as they are or change them.

Remember the main reason for wearing a brace is to change the appearance of the teeth, this is up to you.

If you decide that braces might be a good idea then we may take some x-ray pictures of your teeth to properly decide what to do.

The outcome of this first visit will be one of three things:

It may be too early to decide what to do since you may still have baby teeth.  In this case we will have a  look at you again at a later date (see: after the first visit) until you are ready.

It may be that you do not want braces, after thinking about it, or that braces may not benefit you.  Many patients fall into this group.  If you change your mind later then you can always contact us so  that we can see you again.

You decide on braces, you are ready for braces and braces will work in your case.  You will get a treatment plan  of what will be involved and you can then think about it or book yourself in to fit the brace.

The whole first visit takes about 10 to 20 minutes.  You will get all the options, which may include leaving your teeth as they are if braces are not going to work.  Feel free to take your time and do the treatment whenever you want.

 Next Stage

When visiting the practice, please only do so if you have an appointment booked. Please do not attend if you are experiencing COVID symptoms, should be isolating, are awaiting a COVID test result, or have been abroad in the last 10 days. The front door will be locked, so when attending please press the buzzer to announce yourself for your appointment. Those in active treatment, please try, if at all possible, to attend alone.
